Warner Bros. A MINECRAFT MOVIE began a run of excellent earnings in the second quarter for the studio
Warner Bros.’ film studio has been on a hot streak since the April 4th release of A MINECRAFT MOVIE, which surpassed all expectations by grossing $955M worldwide. In addition to MINECRAFT, the studio has also released a string of box office winners, which include SINNERS, FINAL DESTINATION: BLOODLINES, and F1: THE MOVIE.
The measure of just how much the company has benefited from this run was evident in the company’s second-quarter earnings release. Revenue from its studio division climbed 38% from last year, with profits coming in at more than $600M.
The company’s studio division helped lift the overall second-quarter performance of Warner Bros. Discovery, and early results from the third quarter look equally positive, with excellent returns from F1: THE MOVIE, SUPERMAN, and now WEAPONS.
CEO David Zaslav released a letter following the Q2 earnings announcement, committing his company to an annual theatrical output of 12 to 14 releases. WBD is currently in the middle of a process to separate its studio and streaming divisions from its traditional linear cable operations.
Therefore, a strong performance from its studio will go a long way towards strengthening the value of the separate company that contains its studio and streaming platform.
