Plot Summary
- In Bulandshahr, Ruhani (Avanee Joshi), the daughter of Indian Diplomat Sahu (Indraneel Bhattacharya), is abducted while playing hide-and-seek with Jhimli (Diorr Varghese), the daughter of a domestic help. When Jhimli attempts to intervene, she is abducted as well.Meanwhile, in the Sundarbans, SSP Shivani Shivaji Roy (Rani Mukerji) dismantles a women and drug trafficking operation. The women were abducted to swallow drug packets and then used as couriers to get the drugs across the international borders. Shivani's team included Jimpa (Jimpa Sangpo Bhutia). Shivani had herself abducted as one of the women so as to lead her team to the location of the traffickers. The Traffickers start to sexually assault one of the women, and since her team was late, Shivangi attacks alone. Shivangi kills several criminals before her team arrives and rescues the women.Impressed by her work, Sahu recommends Shivani to lead the investigation into Ruhani's disappearance. Smita (Roopangi Vanvari) is Sahu's wife. Shivani is transferred to the NIA by Home Secretary Vijender Sahani (Naved Aslam) and welcomed by Director General of the National Investigation Agency (Jaipreet Singh). Shivani inspects the crime scene and concludes that the kidnappers did not know that they were picking up the ambassador's daughter, as both girls were abducted and they were playing in the dirt by the side of a canal at random. Shivani says that the girls will most probably be sold to Traffickers. Shivani says that the kidnappers are businessmen and suggests that they announce a hefty reward of Rs 2 Crores for Ruhani's return.The kidnappers initially hand the girls over to Amma (Mallika Prasad), the powerful leader of a beggar mafia network. Amma pays then Rs 10 Lakh per girl. Amma is also in the business of renting babies from needy mothers and giving them out to beggars to make them look genuine. If the baby dies due to sunstroke, Amma returns the baby to the mother in a polythene bag with 2 years of earnings as compensation. Amma's men take a blood test of both the girls and for some reason are looking for young girls who are not yet on their periods. Ruhani tested positive and Jhimli tested negative.The kidnappers then see the reward on the news. They take Ruhani to extort the ransom directly. Amma had seen the news herself and was calling her men to dispose of the girls, but the kidnappers attacked before she could warn them. The kidnappers only took Ruhani and left Jhimli behind.Despite Shivani overseeing the exchange, the criminals evade using a prerecorded video call to deceive the police. One gang member, who was sent to pick up the money, is captured and reveals links to Amma's organization. The kidnapper says that Amma was offering 5 times the money for girls between 8-11 who had not had their periods yet. Constable Fatima witnesses the kidnappers leave the metro station with Ruhani and the bag of money.Shivani discovers that 93 girls aged eight to nine from impoverished families have gone missing in three months, leading her to suspect that Ruhani was abducted after being mistaken for a poor child. Shivani recruits Fatima into her team.Following leads, the police track two of Amma's enforcers named Bilal (Deepak Kamboj) and Munna (Vicky Kanadi) to Treta Trust, a rehabilitation center run by Ramanujan (Prajesh Kashyap), who claims to work against beggar mafias. The enforcers are killed in an encounter while attempting to murder him. Ramanujan reveals that his hand was cut off by the beggar mafia as a kid. With the help of Ramanujan, Shivani raids many of Amma's hideouts, rescuing many of the kidnapped girls.Soon after, Amma intimidates Shivani by breaking into her home. A gambling den reports 3 men using the marked notes that they got as the ransom money. A raid on a gambling den and lodge, results in a shootout where the kidnappers are killed, and Ramanujan is sent to their room to rescue Ruhani as it was raining and It would have taken a long time for back up to reach them. He instead murders her, revealing himself to be a mole within the police force, working for Amma. However, when Shivani enters the room, Ramanujan claims that he was late and the kidnappers killed Ruhani.Amma then calls and threatens Shivani, who vows to rescue Jhimli.Shivani is removed from the case by senior officials but continues investigating unofficially. She finds one missing girl in a hospital, terminally ill with advanced cervical cancer, who dies shortly after revealing that several girls were burned alive after testing positive. The doctor was perplexed as cervical cancer takes hold from the HPV virus, which is sexually transmitted. It takes years for the cancer to take hold and progress. The doctor says that is a forced mutation of the virus.Shivani links a symbol in the girl's drawings to Treta Trust and uncovers Ramanujan's past as a child abducted by Amma and raised within her network. Shivani finds a man named Aslam who worked for Amma earlier and had seen the special relationship develop between Amma and Ramanujan. Shivani takes Aslam into custody and asks Fatima to take him to the station as a witness.Shivani arrests Ramanujan and Amma, but due to lack of evidence and manipulation by Ramanujan (Aslam commits suicide inside his cell, even though Fatima was supposed to be watching him), he is released, Shivani is suspended. Fatima then contacts Ramanujan who asks Fatima to rescue Amma from the station. Ramanujan, Amma, and accomplice Constable Fatima (Janki Bodiwala) flee to Colombo.Shivani forms an independent team and pursues them overseas with Sahu's support. It is revealed that the girls were abducted to be used as test subjects in illegal experiments involving a mutated HPV virus intended to accelerate cervical cancer drug trials. Each of the abducted girls were injected with a mutated HPV-X virus and only the ones who resisted the virus (and tested negative) were useful for the program.Girls deemed unsuitable were killed to avoid detection, explaining Ruhani's murder. Ramanujan was being paid $100 million plus 5% of all gross profits by a large Pharma company for testing the cervical cancer anti-virus on human girls to accelerate development.Shivani captures Amma and confronts Ramanujan in Colombo, revealing that Fatima was planted as her informant. Amma is killed during an escape attempt, and Ramanujan's operation is thwarted. Shivani ensures the rescued girls are repatriated.In the aftermath, Shivani injects Ramanujan with the same virus used on the victims, leaving him to die slowly while in custody. She is reinstated into the police force, awarded the President's Medal, and granted leadership of a special task force with operational autonomy. Jhimli is reunited with her father, and Sahu finds closure.
Storyline
- Shivani Shivaji Roy does not believe in equi-distance. Two girls vanish, one the daughter of a diplomat and one the daughter of nobody the system remembers, and the gap between those two facts is the engine driving everything. Her superiors name the priority. The syndicate already knows it. Shivani works the gap, using institutional indifference as bait, only to find that the trap closes on the wrong side.
