Plot Summary

In this adventure, Asterix (Christian Clavier) and Obelix (Guillaume Briat) embark on a quest across Gaul looking for a young druid worthy of learning the secret of the magic potion, after elderly village druid Getafix (Bernard Alane) breaks his leg when he falls from a tree while picking mistletoe. Getafix is sure that he has lost his touch and that druids are supposed to be surefooted. He gives his secret message to a group of wild boars to be taken to the Chief druid. One of the boars gets lost and accidentally delivers the message to Daemonix (Daniel Mesguich). Unhygienix (François Morel) wants the potion formula to be given to one of the villagers, but the village decides against it and all the men join Getafix in finding this young druid.Asterix and Obelix take Getafix to the Druid Forest, where all the Druids have assembled based on Getafix's message. A village girl, Pectine (Levanah Solomon) has followed Getafix. She is a keen student of Getafix and an inventor. Daemonix gatecrashes the druid conference and steals the name and address of the most promising young druid, while he mixes all other categorized slips (which means Getafix has to roam all over Gaul evaluating every candidate, while Daemonix can work on the most promising candidate and prepare him for the test from Getafix).Pectine learns that Demonix and Getafix were young students, when they competed at the druid championship. Demonix presented a fire powder and Getafix a formula that made stones move effortlessly. Demonix won the competition. But in the career, he failed, while Getafix fast gained popularity with new potions including the potion for superhuman strengths. This made Demonix turn to the dark arts.Once Asterix and Obelix begin their quest (and the rest of the Gaul men join him), all hell breaks loose at home as the Romans - lead by the ridiculous Tomcrus - start attacking, as the village is now only guarded by women with a unknown amount of the potion to save them. The roman strategy is to keep attacking the village (and take a pounding) till the Gauls run out of the potion. Demonix offers to sell the potion to Caesar once he gets his hands on it, in return he wants possession of the Druid Forest.Meanwhile, an evil wizard named Demonix does everything he can to steal the potion's secret recipe, which, for lovers of French cuisine, seems to contain carrots, salt, fish, honey, mead, as well as fresh mistletoe that can only be harvested with a golden sickle. Demonix reaches the village of the young druid Colorix, who is considered most promising of all, and starts gaining his confidence by training him for the upcoming evaluation from Getafix. Demonix wants Colorix to use his fire spell to impress Getafix, but Colorix wants to use his own spell to sort mistletoe berries.Asterix has a falling out with Getafix when he wouldn't relent his quest. he leaves the group and stumbles upon Demonix and finds his plan. Demonix captures Asterix. Meanwhile Getafix finds Colorix, who uses the fire spell and is chosen by Getafix to be his successor. Demonix sets fire to the Druid Forest. Getafix gives the recipe to Colorix but withholds the very last ingredient.The men find that their village is under attack, but neither them nor the village has a single drop of the potion to protect themselves. Getafix gathers the ingredients, but Demonix steals it. Getafix leaves to his hut in the village to prepare the potion. While Demonix confronts Colorix and asks him to prepare a batch to help the village. Pectine tries to argue against preparing the potion in front of Demonix, but Colorix doesn't listen.Demonix soon figures that Getafix hasn't told Colorix the last secret ingredient. So, he mixes his own flame powder to the potion and drinks it to turn into a fire demon. The men of Gaul arrive to create a distraction and Pectine escapes with the bag of ingredients to meet Getafix at the village. There one druid had cooked up a growth potion. Pectine tells Getafix that Colorix brew the potion in front of Demonix. Getafix tells Pectine to brew the potion now and tells her the secret ingredient.But, just in time, Asterix escapes and takes Obelix (who was hypnotized by Demonix) and gets to the village. They arrive just in time as Pectine prepares the potion and Obelix beats Demonix. But Demonix accidentally falls in the cauldron of the growth potion and becomes a giant fire demon. Demonix starts attacking the Romans as well, who now side with the Gauls and drink the magic potion. Getafix organizes the Romans & the Gauls into a giant roman solider, to fight the giant Demonix (using his magic potion he created when he came 2nd in the Druid competition). With a mighty low, Obelix sends the giant Demonix into space.Getafix chooses Pectine as his successor.

Storyline

Following a fall during mistletoe picking, Druid Panoramix decides that it is time to secure the future of the village. Accompanied by Astérix and Obelix, he undertakes to travel the Gallic world in search of a talented young druid to transmit the Secret of the Magic Potion. — Hugo Van Herpe
