The War Memorial Theater in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI, is a historic and culturally significant venue located on the scenic grounds of the Alger Estate. Once known as The Fries Auditorium and later renamed The Patriot Theater, this 450-seat space has hosted countless community events, lectures, concerts, and film screenings since its opening in 1962. Though currently closed due to severe flood damage in 2021, efforts are actively underway to restore and reimagine the theater as a modern, multifunctional venue. Operated by The War Memorial Association—a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring veterans and enriching the community—the theater embodies a legacy of arts, education, and patriotic service. In the meantime, The War Memorial continues to serve the public through exhibitions in the new Patriot Gallery, dynamic programming at the Fred M. Alger Center, and its popular SummerFest series of outdoor concerts and movies. With a vision for the future and deep roots in the past, the revitalization of The War Memorial Theater represents a commitment to culture, connection, and community engagement in Southeast Michigan.
