The Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts, located at 88 Dalhousie Street in Brantford, Ontario, is a historic theatre that has been a cornerstone of the community’s cultural life since its opening on December 22, 1919. Originally known as the Temple Theatre, it was designed by renowned Scottish architect Thomas W. Lamb as a vaudeville and silent movie house. In 1929, the theatre was acquired by Famous Players and renamed the Capitol Theatre, operating primarily as a cinema. By 1986, the City of Brantford purchased the venue, transforming it into a performing arts centre and renaming it the Sanderson Centre to honor the philanthropic contributions of the Sanderson family. Today, this 1,125-seat venue hosts a diverse array of performances, including concerts, theatrical productions, and community events, serving as the home for local organizations like the Brantford Symphony Orchestra. The Sanderson Centre stands as a testament to Brantford’s rich cultural heritage, offering both residents and visitors a glimpse into the city’s artistic legacy.
