The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, affectionately known as The Kate, is a vibrant nonprofit performing arts venue and museum located in the historic former Town Hall of Old Saybrook, Connecticut. Named in honor of legendary actress and local resident Katharine Hepburn, The Kate celebrates her legacy through live performances and an exclusive museum collection. The beautifully restored 285-seat theater, opened in 2009, hosts more than 250 events annually, including music, theater, film, dance, and family programming. On the first floor, the Katharine Hepburn Museum offers a rare glimpse into the star’s life, featuring personal artifacts, costumes, photographs, and home movies. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the building’s cultural roots date back to 1911 and have played a key role in Old Saybrook’s artistic heritage. The Kate also presents special events like its Oscar Night Party and annual Gala, where the Spirit of Katharine Hepburn Award is given to those who embody her bold and independent spirit.
