The NBSD Movie Theater at Naval Base San Diego is a casual on-base cinema offering free screenings of the latest film releases to active-duty service members, reservists, retirees, DOD employees, and their families. Though currently closed for renovations until Spring 2026, the theater is undergoing upgrades to improve the moviegoing experience. Once reopened, patrons can expect a refreshed environment complete with concessions, cashless transactions, and audiovisual assistive equipment, along with accessible seating and booster seats for children. Outside food and drinks are not permitted, as snack bar sales support theater operations. In addition to public showings, the theater also offers private group screenings for command events. While closed, guests are encouraged to visit the nearby NASNI Lowry Theater, which remains open.
