380 Market Boulevard, Collierville, TN 38017, USA
It took 23 years. The building opened in December 1998 as a 16-screen multiplex, changed names twice, and finally came back to life on August 21, 2021, as a Cinema Grill with an MXT auditorium. The reinvention was significant. Recliner seating across the house. In-seat food ordering. 4K laser projection in Auditorium 13, with Dolby Atmos sound on the purpose-built MXT screen. Malco had run the site from the start. The format changed. The operator did not.
The building on Market Boulevard has been through three names. Malco Collierville Towne Cinema 16 at launch in December 1998. Towne Cinema 16 by 2000. Collierville 16 from 2003 onward. Each rename tracked a shift in how the surrounding suburb was growing rather than any change in what the cinema actually offered.
The 2021 reopening was different. Malco closed the site and rebuilt it as a Cinema Grill. Recliner seating replaced the existing chairs across all 16 auditoriums. Auditorium 13 became the MXT room. The 4K laser projection went in. Dolby Atmos sound followed. The in-seat ordering system launched alongside the food menu. August 21, 2021, was the reopening date.
Malco has operated out of Memphis since 1915. The Lightman family founded it. The chain runs more than 37 locations across the Southeast, with several Cinema Grill and MXT sites in the Memphis metro alone. Collierville is the easternmost of the group.
The Collierville location serves a catchment that reaches into Germantown and the eastern suburbs. After 9 pm on Friday through Sunday, a 17-and-over policy applies unless a guest is accompanied by a parent. The box office enforces it.
Auditorium 13 is the MXT room. The screen is large-format. 4K laser projection runs it, which means sharper contrast and brighter colour than standard digital lamp projection. Dolby Atmos handles the audio, with object-based sound moving around and above the auditorium rather than staying locked to speaker positions on the wall.
16 screens in total. Most major releases run across multiple auditoriums simultaneously. The MXT auditorium is bookable separately; the showtime listings flag which screenings are MXT and which are standard digital.
Closed captioning devices, descriptive narration, and assisted listening are available for any showing. These are requested at the box office rather than pre-booked online.
The 2021 renovation swapped out all the original seating. Every auditorium now has recliners. The kind that extends fully, with a footrest that comes up when the back goes down. Not a partial recline. Not a rocker.
The MXT auditorium pairs the recliner setup with the large-format screen. Some guests find the recliner position less ideal for tracking action across a very wide screen from certain row positions. Worth considering when choosing seats during booking.
In-seat ordering works through the Malco app or the QR code on the seat. Orders come to you during the film. The service is available for Cinema Grill menu items, not just standard concessions.
Early access screenings are a recurring feature at Malco Collierville. Major releases often get a preview showing before the official wide release date. These tend to sell quickly. The Marquee Rewards programme sends early notification to members.
The main slate is first-run. Blockbusters, family releases, and prestige films. MXT showings for the biggest releases run alongside standard digital screenings in the same week. Not every title gets an MXT slot.
Showtimes begin from early afternoon on weekdays and push into late evening. Special events appear throughout the year, including anniversary screenings and community film nights. Check malco.com for the current calendar.
MXT carries a premium over the standard digital ticket price. The gap varies by showtime and release. Malco does not publish a blanket price list, so current rates are confirmed at malco.com or by calling (901) 850-0522.
Marquee Rewards is Malco’s loyalty scheme. Points accumulate per purchase and convert toward free tickets and concession credits. Booking directly through Malco rather than Fandango keeps the full rewards value.
The 17-and-over rule after 9 pm Friday to Sunday applies to ticket purchase as well as entry. Guests under 17 without a parent accompanying them will not be admitted to late-night screenings. Worth planning around this if the group includes younger teens.
The grilled chicken breast on a roll is char-broiled, not fried. That distinction shows up on the menu more than you might expect from a cinema. The speciality chicken wrap comes grilled or crispy, with ranch or chipotle mayo.
Burgers and speciality coffees sit alongside the popcorn and fountain drinks. The Cinema Grill label is not a stretch here. It functions as a proper restaurant located inside a cinema.
Ordering works from the seat. Each armrest has a QR code. Scan it, order, and the food arrives during the film. Getting your order in before the trailers end is the smarter move if you want it early.
Three devices to know about: closed captioning, assisted listening, and descriptive narration. All available at the box office. No booking needed. Ask when you arrive.
Wheelchair access covers the full building. The 2021 recliner fit-out opened up aisle widths in most auditoriums. Accessible parking is in the front section of the surface lot.
(901) 850-0522. Call before your visit if you have specific questions about a particular auditorium.

Memphis is 30 miles west. Germantown is closer. Carriage Crossing Mall is less than a mile up Carriage Crossing Parkway.
Free surface lot alongside the building. No validation. The front rows fill on Friday and Saturday evenings. Outer sections stay open when that happens.
51,212 residents. The third-largest municipality in Shelby County. Median household income is $134,319. The workforce skews toward management and computing, with a strong sales sector.
FedEx has operations here. So does Carrier, on the manufacturing side. The broader Memphis metro ties in warehousing and logistics employment. About 56% of Collierville households earn $100,000 annually.
Jesse R. Collier founded the settlement in 1836. Two Civil War battles were fought here, and the town centre took serious damage. It came back. The historic town square has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1990. Parade ranked it the Best Main Street in 2014. The Fair on the Square has run every year since 1976.
31,872 people in 2000. Over 51,000 by 2020. That pace of growth is what the Market Boulevard cinema was eventually built for and what the 2021 renovation responded to.
