Welcome to Lyric Theater. For over a century, Lyric Theater has been a cherished part of Wooster, Ohio's cultural fabric. Located in the heart of downtown at 116 East South Street, this historic venue has been delighting moviegoers for more than 110 years. Following a comprehensive $3.5 million renovation, the theater reopened in February 2025, offering both cinematic and live performance experiences.
Our Cinematic Story
Established in 1912 by local entrepreneur Ed Mott, the original Lyric Theater began with 300 seats, showcasing silent films projected by kerosene-lit, hand-cranked projectors. Over the decades, it evolved alongside the film industry, becoming a central hub for entertainment in Wooster. After a period of dormancy starting in 2010, a dedicated nonprofit formed in 2021 to restore the theater. The revitalized Lyric now features three screens, blending its rich history with modern amenities.
