The Historic Oroville State Theater, located in downtown Oroville, CA, is a beautifully preserved Spanish Colonial Revival landmark and a cornerstone of the community’s cultural life since its opening in 1928. Designed by famed San Francisco architect Timothy Pflueger, the theater originally operated as part of the Turner & Dahnken movie palace chain. Over the decades, it transitioned from a cinema to a vibrant performing arts center, now operated by the nonprofit STAGE (State Theatre Arts Guild, Inc.). The venue hosts classic film screenings, concerts, theatrical performances, dance recitals, and community events. It also features the fully restored Wurlitzer Theatrical Pipe Organ, a rare gem with roots tracing back to Cecil B. DeMille’s private theater. Despite decades of change and past neglect, the Oroville State Theater stands as a cherished beacon of creativity, history, and resilience—offering Northern California audiences a unique space to experience the magic of live entertainment and cinema in a truly historic setting.
