The Film Board at Michigan Technological University is a student-run, second-run movie theater located in Fisher 135 in Houghton, MI, dedicated to providing high-quality, affordable entertainment to the Michigan Tech community and beyond. Open to students, faculty, and the public, it screens popular films each weekend during the academic year for just $3 per ticket—often featuring 3D showings, concessions, and accessibility options like subtitles and T-coil compatibility. Operated entirely by student volunteers, the Film Board maintains professional-grade equipment, including a 40-foot screen, Dolby 7.1 surround sound, and both digital and 35mm projectors. In addition to regular showings, the Film Board partners with campus organizations to host custom events, advertise, and facilitate group ticket sales, all while operating independently through a combination of ticket revenue, donations, and minimal university funding.
