Doc Films, located at the University of Chicago, is the nation's oldest student-run film society, with roots dating back to 1932. Operated entirely by students and volunteers, this non-profit theater screens a different film daily at the Max Palevsky Cinema, a state-of-the-art venue equipped for both classic and modern formats. Initially founded as the International House Documentary Film Group, Doc Films has since expanded its programming to include fiction and experimental films, hosting countless Chicago premieres and welcoming legendary directors such as Alfred Hitchcock and Claire Denis for discussions. Recognized by Vanity Fair as “hard-core beyond words,” the society nurtures a passion for cinema, inspiring future filmmakers and critics while offering an accessible, high-quality venue for domestic and international films.
