After premiering at SXSW 2025, the film held a 100% fresh rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes — with Variety calling it "pulse-pounding" and an "absolute treat" for fans of the screenlife format.
Timur Bekmambetov — who pioneered the screenlife format with films like Searching, Missing, and Unfriended — produced the movie through his Bazelevs and Screenlife Liverpool companies. Two-time Oscar nominee Michael Fassbender also served as an executive producer through his DMC Film banner.
Director Ronan Corrigan began developing the film during the COVID-19 lockdown, drawing directly from his own youth spent gaming on the PC. He wanted to capture that specific generational experience of teenagers who feel most alive inside their screens.
The ensemble features Georgie Farmer (Wednesday), Yasmin Finney (Heartstopper), Roman Hayeck-Green (Sex Education), and actual YouTube content creator James Scholz as one of the four teenage hackers — blending professional actors with an authentic internet personality.
