he plot bore a striking resemblance to the Where the Wild Things Are author's 1981 book Outside Over There — right down to goblins stealing a baby. Sendak's lawyers advised Henson to stop production and threatened consequences. The two sides eventually reached an agreement, and the film's credits still read: "Jim Henson acknowledges his debt to the works of Maurice Sendak."
In the famous "Magic Dance" sequence, choreographer Michael Moschen performed all the crystal-ball juggling while hidden directly behind Bowie, sticking his arm underneath Bowie's armpit so it would appear the Goblin King was manipulating them himself.
The infant was played by Toby Froud — son of the film's conceptual designer Brian Froud — and the now-grown puppeteer has admitted the one thing he clearly remembers from the set is that he may have urinated on David Bowie the very first time they met.
The owl that flies through the opening credits was created by animators Larry Yaeger and Bill Kroyer at Digital Productions, marking the first time a realistic computer-generated animal appeared in a feature film.
