Plot Summary

In the spiritual heartland of early twentieth century India, a thirteen year old boy named Lakshmi Narayan leaves his home in Braj after losing his mother, the only love he had known. He does not seek renunciation but union with Ram, believing that only Hanuman can lead him there.He reaches a Vaishnav temple in Rajkot, barefoot, dust covered and radiant. The Mahant senses prophecy in the boy, a reflection of his own guru, but the boy refuses comfort and praise.He listens to birds, hears trees, absorbs their stories, and then quietly walks away, saying that even a temple can become a bond. The Mahant breaks down, realising the boy did not fail his test, but instead tested him.Lakshmi continues his journey through forests, ghats and graveyards, meditating under trees and sleeping by rivers. Once he stays underwater so long that village children think he has drowned, only to rise again smiling, as if reborn.Years later, now in his mid twenties, he boards a British train and sits in a first class compartment without a ticket. A colonial officer named Francis is offended and orders his removal. Baba is forcibly deboarded, but the moment he steps onto the earth the train refuses to move. Engines fail, engineers panic, and British officials scramble. Baba sits calmly under a tree, humming Sita Ram.When the Divisional Railway Manager arrives and hears the name Lakshman Das, he turns pale and begs forgiveness. Baba quietly produces four first class tickets. His only request is that no saint in India should ever be deboarded for lack of a ticket again. Before leaving, he taps the ground and says that a station will rise where the train stopped. That place becomes Neem Karori Station, and Lakshman Das becomes Neem Karoli Baba.

Storyline

After the death of his mother, a young boy leaves his home in grief, believing that only by finding God can he meet her again. His search takes him across temples, forests, rivers and villages, where he lives in silence, discipline and devotion, slowly shedding all attachments. Through years of wandering and inner struggle, he discovers that God is not found in escape from the world, but in serving it. As his compassion grows, so do stories of quiet miracles, healing, and grace. Renouncing identity and ownership, the boy transforms into Hanuman Ansh, Neem Karoli Baba, dedicating his life to feeding the hungry, loving all without distinction, and blessing humanity through humility, service and silent faith.
