Storyline

Bob, an old gangster and gambler is almost broke, so he decides in spite of the warnings of a friend, a high official from the police, to rob a gambling casino in Deauville. Everything is planned exactly, but the police is informed about the planned coup. Meanwhile in the Casino Bob starts to gamble. — Stephan Eichenberg In the bohemian Montmartre district of late 1950s Paris, Robert "Bob" Montagné, a habitual gambler and former bank robber who has been going straight for twenty years, finds himself flat broke after a long string of bad luck. So, in desperate need of cash, the ex-gangster organises one last heist, setting his sights on robbing Deauville Casino's impenetrable safe, allegedly crammed with 800 million francs. As Bob and his hand-picked team iron out the details of the audacious plan, the stage seems set for a final, winner-take-all robbery. However, greed, blackmail, and even death stand in the way of success. Can Bob the Gambler get away scot-free? — Nick Riganas On the far side of middle age, Bob Montagné, an ex-con who served time before the war for robbery, has since gone the straight and narrow. In his Montmartre neighborhood of Paris where he is a regular fixture in all the hot night spots, he is known mostly as a high rolling gambler, he winning big as often as he loses big. He has a genial relationship with almost everyone he knows, even the Chief of Police, Ledru. He does operate on a moral code, as witnessed by his refusal to assist an associate, Marc, who is wanted by the police, that refusal not only because Marc is a pimp, but that he beat one of his girls, his wife Lydia, the reason the police are after him this time. It is in that same vein of looking out for the next generation that Bob takes Anne, a proverbial party girl on a downward path in her current trajectory, under his wing, much as he has also done with his young friend, Paolo. It is in a perfect storm of circumstances that Bob decides to return to his criminal life and rob the Deauville Casino by breaking into their safe. He believes it will be an easy job, but one where he has to amass a small but still disparate team to accomplish the job. It may be another perfect storm in the process that will lead to what many consider Bob's destiny in what has been the life that he's led. — Huggo In Paris' Montmartre district, everyone knows Bob, a well-dressed compulsive gambler. He's generous, moralistic, drives a two-toned convertible coupe, lives in a swank apartment, and has the respect of the police. But he's on a losing streak, and even when he hits it big at the track, he loses at the Deauville casino. When he learns that the casino keeps a fortune on Grand Prix weekend, he plots a robbery. Subplots trace a seemingly innocent coquette's social climb and the greed of a croupier's wife who betrays the thieves. —
