Sophie Thatcher (birthname: Sophie Bathsheba Thatcher) is a young actor who has drawn attention to her characteristically intense performances, particularly in Showtime’s hit series, Yellowjackets (2021-present). After two years of TV work, Thatcher landed her debut feature role (with the rarity for a newbie of her name above the title and face on the poster) as co-star in writers-directors Zeek Earl’s and Chris Caldwell’s indie sci-fi drama, Prospect (2018), co-starring Pedro Pascal and Jay Duplass, premiering at the South by Southwest festival and scoring an 89% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Sophie Thatcher next appeared in a supporting role in debuting writer-director Noble Jones’s The Tomorrow Man (2019), co-starring John Lithgow and Blythe Danner, with Katie Aselton and Eve Harlow, and premiering at the Sundance film feature. Landing her second starring role in only her third feature, Thatcher starred alongside Chris Messina, Vivien Lyra Blair, and David Dastmalchian in the Rob Savage-directed horror film, The Boogeyman (2023), based on Stephen King’s short story released by 20th Century Studios.
Thatcher’s next starring role was again in the horror genre, with first-time writer-director Drew Hancock, in Companion (date to be announced), co-starring Rupert Friend, Harvey Guillén, Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, and Jack Quaid, and co-produced by New Line Cinema, BoulderLight Pictures, and Vertigo Entertainment. In a non-acting capacity, Thatcher also served as an executive producer on her sister Emma’s feature drama, Provo (2022), which premiered at the Chicago Underground Film Festival.
Sophie Thatcher was born and raised in Chicago in a Mormon family and has three siblings, including twin sister Ellie, and older sister Emma Thatcher, now a writer-director. Thatcher schooled at Evanston Township High School and a performing arts school for musical theater, and performed in a number of Chicago-area stage productions during her teenage years, including Oliver!, The Diary of Anne Frank, The Secret Garden, and Seussical. At age 16, she launched her professional acting career.
