Joe Apollonio (birthname: Joseph Dylan Ruyman) is a New York-based actor who has appeared in a range of exclusively indie features since 2016, when he appeared in director/writer Irving Franco’s drama, Cheerleader (2016), with Catherine Blades, Chris Bert and Rachel Beyda, and produced by Open Productions.
Apollonio had his first feature starring role in director/co-writer Jigmae Baer’s New York indie film, Come to the Show (2016), with Emily Canning and Jeremy Willie Cox, and then Apollonio had a small role in director/writer/producer Dan Fogelman’s New York drama, Life Itself (2018), starring Oscar Isaac, Olivia Wilde, Many Patinkin, Olivia Cooke, Laia Costa, Annette Bening, Antonio Banderas and Samuel L. Jackson, premiering at the Toronto Film Festival and released by Amazon Studios to a $8 million return.
Apollonio landed a major supporting role in the Canadian horror-romance, My Animal (2023), with Bobbi Salvor Menuez and Amandla Stenberg under Jacqueline Castel’s direction, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was released by Paramount Global Content Distribution. Apollonio followed this by co-starring in Argentine/Spanish filmmaker Amalia Ulman’s second feature, Magic Farm (2025), co-starring Guillermo Jacubowicz, Chloë Sevigny, Alex Wolff, Camila del Campo, and Simon Rex, and released by Mubi after premiering at the Sundance and Berlin Film Festivals.
Joe Apollonio was born and raised in Babylon, New York, by his single mother, resulting in a chaotic childhood he has re-created in his one-man stage show.
