Eric Appel has been a director/producer/writer of web-based and TV comedy shorts and series since 2008. After directing his first feature-length movie for The Roku Channel, Weird: The Al Yankovich Story (2022), turned to theatrical features as director of the comedy, The Breadwinner (2026), with star/co-writer/producer Nate Bargatze in his feature debut, Mandy Moore, Will Forte, Colin Jost, Kumail Nanjiani, Zach Cherry, Kate Berlant and Martin Herlihy, produced by TriStar Pictures/Wonder Project and released wide by Sony Pictures Releasing.
Eric Appel was born and raised in Endicott, New York by his parents. Appel attended and graduated from Union Endicott High School; Appel majored in computer animation at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and then studied improv performance and performed with the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York. Appel is married to actor/writer Johanna Parker; the couple lives in Los Angeles.
