Eli Craig (birthname: Elijah M. Craig) is a filmmaker who specializes in fusing horror tropes with comedy, first expressed in his feature debut as director and co-writer (with Morgan Jurgenson), Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (2010), with Tyler Labine, Alan Tudyk, Katrina Bowden and Jesse Moss, premiering at the South by Southwest Film Festival and winning the Midnight Audience Award.
Craig’s second movie as director/writer was part of the earlier wave of original feature films acquired by streaming service Netflix, the horror-comedy Little Evil (2017), starring Adam Scott, Evangeline Lilly, Owen Atlas, Bridget Everett and Sally Field, and which was originally acquired by Universal Pictures and received a 92% Rotten Tomatoes rating.
Craig did not direct and write a feature for another eight years until he made the slasher movie, Clown in a Cornfield (2025), based on Adam Cesare’s 2020 novel, and co-starring Katie Douglas, Aaron Abrams, Carson MacCormac, Kevin Durand and Will Sasso, and after premiering at the South by Southwest Film Festival, was released wide by RLJE Films/Shudder. Craig has also appeared as an actor in movies since 1999, in Deal of a Lifetime (1999), The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999), Space Cowboys (2000), and in small parts in his movies, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (2010) and Little Evil (2017).
Eli Craig was born and raised in Los Angeles by his parents, Oscar-winning actor Sally Field and his father, Steve Craig. Craig’s older brother is Peter Craig (screenwriter, novelist); Craig has two half-brothers, John Craig (musician) and Sam Greisman.

First Review: Eli Craig sent a nearly final cut of his debut feature, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, to his mother, Sally Field, to see if it worked as a comedy. She was the first to remark that it was “really funny,” an extra boost to Craig since he was sure that his mother had never watched his movie’s key inspiration, Tobe Hooper’s horror classic, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974).
