Damian Harris is the filmmaker son of legendary British actor Richard Harris, and launched his feature career as a writer/director with his U.K. adaptation of Martin Amis’ 1973 novel, The Rachel Papers (1989), starring Dexter Fletcher, Ione Skye, Jonathan Pryce, James Spader, Bill Paterson, Jared Harris, and Michael Gambon, and released by Virgin Vision. Harris had his Hollywood studio debut as director of the psychological thriller, Deceived (1991), starring Goldie Hawn, John Heard, Beatrice Straight, and Kate Reid, produced by Touchstone Pictures and released by Buena Vista Pictures to a global gross of $28.7 million.
Harris continued as a director with Touchstone Pictures/Buena Vista Pictures with the noir thriller, Bad Company (1995), written by Ross Thomas and starring Ellen Barkin, Laurence Fishburne, Frank Langella, Michael Beach, David Ogden Stiers, and Michael Murphy. Harris reunited five years later with lead actor Barkin as director/writer of the erotic thriller, Mercy (2000), with Wendy Crewson, Peta Wilson, and Julian Sands, released by New City Releasing.
Harris was director/writer/producer of the U.S. drama, Gardens of the Night (2008), starring Gillian Jacobs, Evan Ross, Jeremy Sisto, Harold Perrineau, Kyle Gallner, John Malkovich, and Tom Arnold, and premiering in competition at the Berlin Film Festival before a release by City Lights Pictures/Sobini Films/VVS Films.
Harris directed the ensemble of Glenn Close, John Malkovich, Patrick Stewart, and Minnie Driver in the rom-com, The Wilde Wedding (2017), which Harris also wrote, and which premiered at the Deauville Film Festival (where it won the Critics Prize) before a release by Vertical Entertainment.
Harris was away from feature filmmaking for seven years before returning as director/co-writer of the U.S. drama, Brave the Dark (2025), with his brothers Jared and Jamie Harris and Nicholas Hamilton, and released by Angel Studios.

Damian Harris was born and raised in London, England, by his parents actor Richard Harris and actor Elizabeth Rees-Williams. Harris has two brothers, actors Jared Harris and Jamie Harris. Harris attended and graduated from Downside School (Somerset, England), then studied screenwriting at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University and filmmaking at the London Film School. Harris was married to actor Annabel Brooks from 1981 to 1990 when they divorced; the couple has one daughter, Ella. Harris was in a relationship with Australian actor Peta Wilson from 1997 to 2002; the couple has one boy, Marlowe. Harris’s height is 5’ 7”.
