The Miracle Theatre, located on historic Barracks Row in Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C., is the city’s oldest movie theater and a cherished cultural landmark. Originally opened in 1909 as the Meader Theater, it began as a vaudeville venue showcasing a blend of live performances and motion pictures. After decades of cinematic evolution and various name changes, the building was acquired by National Community Church in 2011 and revitalized as a second-run movie house and live performance space. Today, The Miracle Theatre screens affordable films on weekends and hosts concerts and events in partnership with Union Stage. It celebrates the art of storytelling—whether cinematic, musical, or theatrical—with a mission to inspire and uplift its community. With wheelchair-accessible facilities, assistive listening devices, open caption screenings, and a welcoming atmosphere, The Miracle remains a vibrant destination for audiences of all ages.
