Located on Madison’s vibrant east side, the Barrymore Theatre is a beautifully restored, historic performance and event venue with a 971-person capacity. Originally opened in 1929 as the Eastwood Theater, this Spanish Colonial-style gem has evolved over nearly a century into a beloved community hub for live music, comedy, films, theater, and civic events. With a spacious theater-style seating layout, the Barrymore transforms its former orchestra pit into a dance floor for high-energy shows or additional seating for sit-down performances. Guests can enjoy 12 beers on tap, a selection of wines and mixed drinks, and the theater’s famously delicious coconut oil–popped popcorn with a variety of seasonings. Owned by the nonprofit Schenk-Atwood Revitalization Association and managed by Steve Sperling, the Barrymore continues to celebrate Madison’s arts and culture scene with nearly 3,000 events hosted to date, all while maintaining its warm, one-of-a-kind neighborhood atmosphere.
