The Aberdeen Elkin Theatre is an historical theater in Aberdeen, Mississippi that retains its beautiful decor and charm. Built in 1937, the theater has a rich history. It first opened as a small town movie house, built by the Elkin family who went on to operate this beloved establishment for many years. The Elkin was considered one of the finest and best-equipped theaters in the southern United States. Its Art Nouveau-style architecture and state-of-the-art facilities made it a focal point in the community. In the 1980s, a group of dedicated citizens stepped up to preserve this historic landmark. They formed the Aberdeen Elkin Theatre Association and purchased the theater. Today, The Elkin plays movies and hosts live performances, keeping the spirit of entertainment alive.
