9 to 5 is a 1980 American comedy directed by Colin Higgins, who wrote the screenplay with Patricia Resnick.
Judy Bernly (Jane Fonda), newly divorced and new to work, joins Consolidated Industries alongside supervisor Violet Newstead (Lily Tomlin) and secretary Doralee Rhodes (Dolly Parton), all three dealing with their boss Franklin Hart Jr (Dabney Coleman). A mix-up involving rat poison leaves Hart injured and then held at his own house, and while he is out of the office the three take over his department, run it better, and uncover his embezzlement.
Elizabeth Wilson plays Roz Keith, Peggy Pope plays Margaret Foster and Sterling Hayden plays Hart's superior Russell Tinsworthy. 20th Century Fox released it on 19 December 1980. The runtime is 1 hour 49 minutes, rated PG. 20th Century Studios brought it back for a one-week engagement from 9 to 15 October 2026, with net proceeds from US tickets going to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library via CAF America and The Dollywood Foundation.
