In 1960, Waleed and Malik Ali, two brothers born in the U.S., returned to their parents’ ancestral land of Palestine during their childhood. After the 1967 Naksa, they moved back to America to pursue their passion for film. In 1976, they launched MPI Media Group, an entertainment company, and became successful independent film distributors.
Years after Waleed’s passing, Malik’s sons, Badie and Hamza, are dedicated to fulfilling their Father and Uncle’s dream. Watermelon Pictures is committed to using the power of film to amplify underrepresented voices, particularly those from Palestine and other marginalized communities.
Our mission is to champion unheard voices, inspire the world to stand up to injustice and imagine our way into a shared, liberated future. We aim to entertain audiences and enrich the cultural landscape by promoting stories that reflect the perspectives and experiences of Palestinians as well as other marginalized groups around the world.
Watermelon Pictures is more than a distribution label – it is a platform for change.
