Sergio Peris-Mencheta (birthname: Luis Sergio Peris-Mencheta Barrio) is a popular Spanish actor in cinema, TV, and theater, as well as a Spanish theater director. Peris-Mencheta launched his film career with a major role in writer-director Manuel Estudillo’s Jara (2000), with Angela Molina, and quickly built a solid career in popular Spanish movies, though few if any of them were picked up for U.S. distribution.
Peris-Mencheta was cast by French filmmaker Jean-Jacques Annaud for his commercially disastrous Spanish-French ancient Greece comedy, His Majesty Minor (2007), starring Jose Garcia, Vincent Cassel, Claude Brasseur, and Jean-Luc Bideau. Sergio Peris-Mencheta made his Hollywood debut in the cast of another box-office disaster, the Taylor Hackford-directed/produced drama, Love Ranch (2010), co-starring Helen Mirren, Joe Pesci, Bryan Cranston, Gina Gershon, Harve Presnell, and Wendell Pierce.
The next English-language movie for Peris-Mencheta, however, was a big hit—filmmaker Paul W.S. Anderson’s Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010), a sequel to Anderson’s previous Resident Evil: Extinction (2007), and the fourth in the series for Sony Releasing/Screen Gems, starring Milla Jovovich, with Ali Larter and Kim Coates, and grossing over $300 million globally.
After a decade of several commercially successful Spanish films, Peris-Mencheta appeared in his next English-language movie in director-writer-producer Dan Fogelman’s multi-generational drama, Life Itself (2018), with Oscar Isaac, Olivia Wilde, Mandy Patinkin, Olivia Cooke, Laia Costa, Annette Bening, and Antonio Banderas, and which premiered at the Toronto film festival and released by Amazon Studios.
Sergio Peris-Mencheta continued his run in Hollywood with a major supporting role opposite Sylvester Stallone in Lionsgate’s Rambo: Last Blood (2019), co-written by Stallone and the fifth entry in the Rambo series, with Paz Vega, and Adriana Barrazza, and grossing $91.5 million worldwide. Four years later, Peris-Mencheta played the lead bad guy in the anticipated sequel, Meg 2: The Trench (2023), directed by Ben Wheatley, starring Jason Statham and Wu Jing, and released by Warner Bros. to strong global box-office returns far exceeding $139 million costs.
Sergio Peris-Mencheta was born and raised in Madrid by a Spanish-born father and a mother born to Spanish-exiled parents living in Moscow. Peris-Mencheta graduated from secondary school and then studied theater at Charles II University of Madrid, where he determined his career as an actor in theater, TV, and cinema. Peris-Mencheta was in a relationship with actor Silvia Abascal, and then with actor Marta Solaz Cruz, with whom he has children.
