Peter Hastings (birthname: Peter Livingston Hastings) is a versatile filmmaker in the animation space in both features and television, making his feature directorial debut with Disney’s live-action/animated The Country Bears (2002), with Haley Joel Osment, Stephen Tobolowsky, Christopher Walken, Meagan Fay, Queen Latifah and Brad Garrett, grossing a disappointing $17 million (against $35 million costs).
Hastings’s next feature filmmaking project was as director/writer (as well as voice effects actor) of the animated superhero sequel in the Captain Underpants franchise, Dog Man (2025), produced by DreamWorks Animation and released by Universal Pictures, featuring the voices of Pete Davidson, Lil Rel Howery, Isla Fisher, Poppy Liu, Stephen Root, and Ricky Gervais.
Hastings has also been an active writer/producer in television animation, including his first hit show, the 25-episode Animaniacs (1994-1997), the 22-episode Pinky and the Brain (1995), the 78-episode Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness (2011-2016), the 26-episode The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants (2018-2019) and the 11-episode Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight (2022).
Peter Hastings was born and raised in Haverford, Pennsylvania by his parents. Hastings attended and graduated from the prestigious Berkeley College of Music in 1984, and continued his music studies at the Musician’s Institute in Los Angeles in 1985.
