Joe Bird (birthname: Joseph Bird) is a British-born Australian actor who made his feature debut in Australian director/writer Luke Shanahan’s folk horror movie, Rabbit (2017), co-starring Adelaide Clemens, Alex Russell, and Veerle Baetens, produced by David Ngo, and which premiered at the Melbourne Film Festival before a release by Vendetta Films.
Bird made his breakthrough as co-star of Australian director brothers Danny and Michael Philippou’s acclaimed and highly profitable supernatural horror movie, Talk to Me (2022), co-written by Danny and Bill Hinzman, based on a concept by Daley Pearson, with Sophie Wilde, Alexandra Jensen and Miranda Otto, debuting internationally at the Sundance Film Festival and grossing a phenomenal (based on estimated costs) $92 million return for distributors A24 (U.S.) and Maslow Entertainment/Umbrella Entertainment/Ahi Films (Australia-New Zealand).
Bird co-starred in the Australian Western sequel, Wolfram (2025), with Deborah Mailman, Pedrea Jackson, and Thomas M. Wright under Warwick Thornton’s direction, and which made its international premiere in competition at the Berlin Film Festival and was released by Bonsai Films (Australia). Bird earned considerable acclaim starring in debuting director/writer Adrian Chiarella’s Australian supernatural horror movie about gay conversion therapy, Leviticus (2026), starring Stacy Clausen, Mia Wasikowska, Ewen Leslie, and Nicholas Hope, produced by Causeway Films, and which premiered to strong reviews at the Sundance Film Festival and was released widely by Neon.
Joe Bird co-starred in director/writer/co-star Nick Annas’s thriller, Crashout (date to be announced), co-starring Catherine Laga’aia and Evelyn Sims, produced by Enzo Tedeschi, Helen Tuck, and Denai Gracie under the joint banner of Deadhouse Films/WeirAnderson Films/Atypical Originals, and released by Umbrella Entertainment.
