Jack Champion (birthname: Jackson Champion) is a rising young actor whose second and third credited movies grossed a combined $5 billion box office, is best known for his performances in James Cameron’s Avatar series, and who made his feature (uncredited) debut as a child actor in the sequel, Insurgent (2015), adapted by writers Brian Duffield, Akiva Goldsman and Mark Bomback from Veronica Roth’s second book (Insurgent) in her Divergent series, starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Octavia Spencer, Naomi Watts, Suki Waterhouse, Rosa Salazar and Daniel Dae Kim under Robert Schwentke’s direction, and grossing over $297 million globally for Lionsgate.

Champion was cast in 2016 at age 12 by filmmaker James Cameron as Miles “Spider” Socorro for the long-awaited sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), with Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder and Giovanni Ribisi, and which involved filming over two-and-a-half years of grueling action work and which was released when Cameron had turned 18. Champion also concurrently filmed his scenes (to avoid visible aging) for the sequel, Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025), as well as Avatar 4 (2029) and Avatar 5 (2031)—thus spanning fifteen years from initial casting to release of the final film.

Champion starred with Ji-young Yoo in the first segment, titled “Strength in Numbers: The Gilman Strikes Back,” in directors/writers/producers Anna Boden’s and Ryan Fleck’s action comedy anthology movie, Freaky Tales (2024), with Pedro Pascal, Ben Mendelsohn, Jay Ellis, Normani and Dominique Thorne, and which launched to good reviews at the Sundance Film Festival before a small release by Lionsgate. Champion joined the colorful ensemble of Allison Janney, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, Bryan Cranston, Simon Rex, and Chris Cooper in the comedy drama, Everything’s Going to Be Great (2025), directed by Jon S. Baird and written by Steven Rogers, and released in a limited pattern by Lionsgate after premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Jack Champion co-starred in his biggest role to date opposite Dave Bautista (who also produced) in the Michael Dowse-directed crime thriller, Trap House (2025), with Sophia Lillis, Whitney Peak, Kate del Castillo, and Bobby Cannavale, produced partly by Ridley Scott’s Scott Free and released wide by Aura Entertainment.
