Ben Leonberg (birthname: Ben Curtis Leonberg) has been both a filmmaker and assistant professor of film production, starting his career with eleven short films as director/writer/producer from 2009 to 2016. Leonberg made his feature debut as director/co-writer (with Alex Cannon)/producer (with wife Kari Fischer) of the supernatural horror movie, Good Boy (2025), starring Shane Jensen and Leonberg’s own dog, Indy, with supporting turns from Arielle Friedman and Larry Fessenden, and which premiered to strong reviews at the South by Southwest Film Festival before a wide release by IFC.
Ben Leonberg was born and raised in Camden, New Jersey by his parents. Leonberg attended and graduated in 2010 with a B.A. in Film and Television Production from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he was a member of the men’s cross-country team. Leonberg then attended the New Zealand Film Academy in 2008-2009, studying filmmaking and television production. Leonberg graduated in 2015 from Columbia University with an MFA in Film Directing/Screenwriting. Leonberg is married to film producer Kari Fischer.
