Layton made his debut in narrative features as director/writer of the heist drama, American Animals (2018), starring Evan Peters, Barry Keoghan, Blake Jenner, Jared Abrahamson, Udo Kier and Ann Dowd, premiering at the Sundance Film Festival and released by The Orchard and MoviePass Ventures (U.S.)/STXInternational (U.K.), grossing over $4 million.
