Luke Macfarlane (birthname: Thomas Luke Macfarlane Jr.) is best known for his appearances in a number of Hallmark TV productions as well as Jon Robin Baitz’s ABC series, Brothers & Sisters (2006-2011), but is beginning to make his mark in features, including Nicholas Stoller’s gay comedy, Bros (2022), with Billy Eichner, and co-produced by Judd Apatow and Stoller.
Macfarlane’s screen debut was in Bill Condon’s Oscar-nominated biopic, Kinsey (2004), with Liam Neeson and Laura Linney. Macfarlane appeared in the horror anthology, Trapped Ashes (2006), written by Dennis Bartok; Macfarlane starred in the segment, “My Twin, The Worm,” directed by John Gaeta, alongside other segments directed by Joe Dante, Monte Hellman, Ken Russell, and Sean Cunningham.
Macfarlane starred as a haunted killer in the psychological thriller, Rock Paper Dead (2017). Before Bros, Macfarlane appeared in another gay-centric romantic comedy: Netflix’s Single All the Way (2021), with Michael Urie, Philemon Chambers, Barry Bostwick, Jennifer Coolidge, and Kathy Najimy. Macfarlane played the title role in the David Stoddart-directed indie drama, Lone Star Bull (date to be announced), with Sebastian Roché.
Born in the Canadian city of London, Ontario, Luke Macfarlane was raised by Thomas and Penny Macfarlane, both of whom worked professionally in the health services industry. Macfarlane has a twin sister named Ruth, and an older sister, Rebecca.
Macfarlane schooled at the Lester B. Pearson School for the Arts in London and at London Central Secondary School. Macfarlane attended and graduated from The Julliard School at New York’s Lincoln Center. Macfarlane became a U.S. citizen in 2018. His height is 6’ 2”.
