The Southington Drive-In is a nostalgic outdoor movie theater located in Southington, Connecticut. It is one of the only three remaining outdoor theaters in the state. The drive-in was originally opened in 1955 as a for-profit business and featured movies for nearly half a century before closing in 2002. In 2004, Southington residents voted to purchase the property to expand nearby Recreation Park and enjoy continued outdoor activities at the nostalgic site.
The Southington Drive-In is not a for-profit business. Instead, all proceeds are distributed to host civic and non-profit organizations. To date, the Southington Drive-In Committee has distributed more than $250,000 to host groups over eight seasons of weekly drive-in movies. In addition to weekly Saturday night movies, the Southington Drive-In also hosts an annual Halloween Festival on the Saturday prior to Halloween. The snack bar is run by the Southington High School DECA Club with all proceeds benefiting that organization and its various activities.
