The Heights Theater is an historic theater located at 40th and Central Streets in the Columbia Heights suburb of Minneapolis. The Heights Theater is The Twin Cities’ longest continuously operated show house, having been first opened in 1926. It was built in the Beaux Arts style, and began operations by featuring a combined program of vaudeville acts and first-run Hollywood movies. An extensive renovation in the 1990’s included the installation of a Wurlitzer pipe organ and antique chandeliers suspended from the ceiling that include “2600 Egyptian lead crystals.”
Today the theater runs first-run films as well as special events. The Heights Theater also adorns the street light banners that welcome people to Columbia Heights.
