In September 2024 the Metropolitan Theatres chain announced that it was closing its operations of the theatre, and in October 2024 the City of Santa Barbara announced that it was working with a local community organization to raise public and private funding to take ownership of the Fiesta Five, and upgrade the factility to the highest modern standards. The Fiesta Five is an anchor location for the internationally renowned Santa Barbara Film Festival.
