Sony Pictures Classics is the specialty film division of Columbia Tristar Motion Picture Group, which itself is a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Entertainment. It produces, acquires, and distributes upscale independent art films from all over the world. A shrewd purchaser of films on the festival circuit, Sony Pictures Classics’ films have won more than 20 Academy Awards. The unit was founded in 1992 by co-presidents Michael Barker, Tom Bernard, and Marcie Bloom.
