Revolution Studios is a diversified entertainment company that owns and distributes its film and television library and exploits its derivative rights to produce a wide range of content.
Revolution boasts one of the largest independent libraries of premium content, including 126 motion pictures, which have collectively earned more than $7.1 billion in box office receipts to date, as well as 240 television episodes.
The company is led by CEO Scott Hemming, a seasoned entertainment executive whose tenure with Revolution spans more than two decades. Revolution is owned by Los Angeles-based Content Partners, LLC, which acquired the company in 2017. The company was originally founded by Joe Roth in 2000.
The company’s first strategic acquisition came in 2014, when Revolution purchased the Morgan Creek international film library, consisting of 64 film titles, including the box office hits Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and the Ace Ventura and Major League franchises. Other critically and commercially successful features in this library include The Last of the Mohicans, The Good Shepherd, True Romance and Young Guns II. In 2015, Revolution purchased the Cold Spring Pictures motion picture library, including the multiple-Oscar®-nominee and Golden Globe winner Up in the Air, starring George Clooney. In 2016, the studio acquired five titles produced by GK Films: the Academy Award®-winning film Hugo, The Tourist, Edge of Darkness, The Rum Diary and The Young Victoria.
Revolution Studios has produced 47 films, including Maid in Manhattan, Anger Management, Daddy Day Care, America’s Sweethearts, White Chicks, 13 Going on 30 and the Academy Award®-winning Black Hawk Down, which have collectively earned more than $4 billion in box office receipts. Additionally, Revolution has developed and produced multiple syndicated television series, including Are We There Yet? for TBS; Anger Management, with Lionsgate, for FX; and Drew Carey’s Improv-A-Ganza for GSN. In 2019, the studio garnered five Emmy nominations and won two for the live television musical RENT.
