This is the fourth SpongeBob feature to hit cinemas (after 2004, 2015, 2020) and the first conceived after creator Stephen Hillenburg’s passing. The story was re-tooled from a direct-to-streaming Krabs-centric special into a big-screen, ghost-pirate epic once Paramount saw early test reels pop.
