Plot Summary

In New York in 1904, a bunch of firefighters rush into a burning hotel, when they come across a room filled entirely of ice. One of the men plays back a recording of the scene on an old speaker.In the modern day, the Spengler family and Gary Grooberson chase down an ice dragon and Phoebe rides in a seat at the side of the ghostbuster car, before finally capturing it with a zapper. Their close friends, Podcast and Domingo have moved back to New York City to help aid the other two ghostbusters, Winston Zeddemore and Ray Stanz. Eventually, they capture the ghost from Hell's Kitchen and turn it into the Mayor, who is now their long time rival, Walter Peck. Walter is not pleased about the damage done to his town and he threatens to stop the ghostbusters once and for all. Callie removes the youngest Spengler, Phoebe from the team, until she is 18.To get over her disappointment of being dropped from the ghostbusters, Phoebe goes out to play chess with the ghost of a girl who had died in a fire named Melody. In an antiques store, Ray and Podcast had people delivering all sorts of crazy "cursed" items, which Podcast would inspect for abnormal activity. During a search, he comes across a bunch of mini pufts, who begin to wreak havoc. Back upstairs, a man named Nadeem Razmaadi pops in and hands them an old orb, which he claims to be cursed with some writing in Arabic on the side, which he inherited from his grandmother. Ray determines the orb to be a trap for supernatural beings, because of its copper alloys being used in supernatural rituals during the Bronze Age.Ray evaluates the orb and it's pshycokinetic energy, before it explodes, emitting broad-spectrum psionic energy throughout the town and it eventually gets to the firehouse, damaging the nearly full compartment where they keep all the spectres of the past. Meanwhile, up in the attic, Trevor comes across a bunch of candy wrappers on the ground, but as he approaches them, a slimer like ghost comes out and begins flying round the room.Ray goes to do further research on the orb in his own private paranormal research center and with the help of Dr Lars Pinfield, they try and collect some energy from the orb, to no avail. However, the orbs power is strong enough to disrupt one of the ecto-confinements, allowing one of the spectres to escape and hideout in Podcasts equipment. Lars, Trevor and Lucy go and speak to Nadeem who reveals that his grandmother kept the orb a secret from him and hid it in a brass-line chamber. Peter Venkman walks in and reveals that Nadeem has latent pyrokinetic powers.Ray goes to meet a New York research librarian named Dr Hubert Wartzki and she proceeds to tell the story of how the orb was created 4,000 years prior, in Southwest Asia by a group of Sourcerers called the "Firemasters". The Firemasters wanted to capture a phantom god named Garraka, who plotted to take over the world with his undead army. They would use, "Kusharit Umoti (The Death Chill) as the power to kill with fear itself. Nadeems grandmother, along with Nadeem himself are of a blood lineage of Firemasters. One of the Firemasters even prevented Garraka from braking free of the orb in 1904, whilst the Manhattan Adventurers Society were doing a mock ritual of whom Garraka froze to death. It was also revealed that Garraka was vulnerable to brass, fire and the fact that his horns were cut off, trapped Garraka in the orb.Suddenly, the lion statue outside the library, becomes possessed and Phoebe tries to stop it, ultimately destroying even more of the town and gets arrested. The group attempt to stop the ghost from pilfering the recording, before Walter Peck exploits Phoebes involvement with the ghostbusters permanently, in the hope that the ghostbusters will be no more. Phoebe argues with her mother and Gary, before rushing up to her room. After a little while, Gary and Callie come to tell Phoebe that the reason they aren't letting her go out on missions is to protect her.Unfortunately, Phoebe had already ran off with Melody to the research facility and she uses Winstons extraction equipment to project herself as a ghost for 2 minutes, so she can know what it is like to be a ghost, but also to connect with Melody and physically interact with her. At that very moment, Melody revealed she had secretly been working for Garraka, who had offered her a passage to the afterlife in return. Garraka gets Phoebes body to recite the ritual chant, allowing the demon ghost to reclaim all the power in his horns, relocating them on his head and escapes, covering the entirety of New York in snow and ice.The rest of the ghostbusters realize that the demon will freeze all the spectres in the compartment unit, having already frozen all of the ones in the research center. They gather everyone together, in an attempt to save the firehouse and their headquarters. Nadeem wears the Firemaster Brass Armour, kept by his grandmother and he practices his power, just as Garraka approaches.Unfortunately, Garraka is more powerful than the gang and he begins to freeze them one by one. Phoebe uses Brass to electrify Ego Spenglers proton-pack and Garraka betrays Melody, causing her to transition to helping the gang. Melody helps Nadeem to utilize his power, revealing himself as the new Firemaster. Ray, the rest of the ghostbusters and the ex-receptionist Janine Melnitz also help defeat Garraka, by turning the compartment into a giant ghost trap. This along with the fire, help melt Garraka into dust and he is finally captured in the compartment.Melody and Phoebe share one last goodbye, before Melody moves on to the afterlife to reconcile with her family. Despite the gang doing an excellent job at saving New York City, Walter still refuses to thank the ghostbusters, before the booing crowd forces him to change his mind and he also reverses his decision on kicking Phoebe out of the ghostbusters. Just then, Slimer and the other ghosts escape and they all go after them, with Trevor finally being able to drive the ghostbuster car.As the credits roll, a truck driver departs his vehicle, carrying Stay-puft marshmallows to make a purchase at a nearby vending machine, when the mini pufts steal the truck.

Storyline

After saving the world from an ancient god of destruction in Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) , Gary and the Spenglers settle into the old fire station in New York, where the original Ghostbusters (1984) began their journey to save the world from paranormal threats. But just when they thought they could enjoy their newfound peace, the team stumbles upon a mysterious object that frees an unstoppable force from the depths of history. As chaos reigns and pure evil plunges the world into darkness, the Ghostbusters must once again step up to save humankind from the brink of doom. With two generations of ghost hunters fighting side by side, the stakes have never been higher. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

A franchise once built on comedy with some creepy ghosts on the side now feels more committed to nostalgic brand-building, sprinkled with forgettable scares and half-hearted attempts at humor.
