More and more, Ahmed, a timid, vulnerable thirteen-year-old Muslim boy living in a small Belgian town, finds himself attracted to dangerous ideologies. Suddenly, while under the influence of the radical teachings of Youssouf, the local imam, Ahmed has stopped acting his age, increasingly alienating himself from his mum, his sister, and his friends. But, the troubled teenager has something in mind, and now, there is no turning back. Is young Ahmed prepared for the painful and destructive consequences of hatred? — Nick Riganas Belgian small-town model schoolboy Ahmed changes into a rebel under the influence of his radical imam Youssouf, who sees threats to the true faith everywhere. This turns Ahmed against his mother for raising his equally modern sister like a ‘slut’ without headscarf, alienating him from everyone, obsessed by radical Koranic life. Well-meaning modern Arabic teacher Inès is seen as blasphemer for mutilating the language of the Holy Scripture, so after a PTA doesn’t help, Ahmed attacks her with a kitchen knife from home. Only thirteen, he’s remanded to a youth center, where he reluctantly accepts psychological counseling and does well in cattle care therapy. Seemingly reformed, he’s allowed to see Inès, who wants to face and understand her attacker. However he plans a second go at her, preparing and hiding a stint, but on the day things take an unexpected turn for both of them. — KGF Vissers
