Zak Hilditch is an Australian filmmaker who subsequently broke into the American film industry, but initially, in Australia, he created a series of short films between 2003 and 2012. Hilditch made his feature filmmaking debut as director/co-writer/producer of the comedy, The Actress (2006), with Caitlin Higgins, Matt Hard i.e., ie and Laura Henderson, co-written by Steve McCall (who was also an associate producer) and produced by Antony Webb. Hilditch was then director/writer/producer of the drama, Plum Role (2007), starring Matt Hardie and set in Hilditch’s native city, Perth, and produced by Quagmire Productions.
Hilditch continued to make low-budget indie movies in the Perth area with the comedy-drama, The Toll (20 ), with his regular collaborators Steve McCall (co-writer/actor/composer) and Antony Webb (producer/cinematographer/editor), and which co-starred Nick Britton and Lee Jankowski. Hilditch was director/writer of the post-Apocalyptic drama, These Final Hours (2013), co-starring Nathan Phillips, Angourie Rice, and Jessica De Gouw, and which premiered at the Melbourne Film Festival and had its international premiere in the 2014 Directors' Fortnight competition at the Cannes Film Festival.
Hilditch’s next two movies went directly to Netflix streaming and were produced by Ross M. Dinerstein: as director/writer/executive producer of his adaptation of Stephen King’s 2010 novella, 1922 (2017), starring Thomas Jane and Molly Parker; and as director/writer/executive producer of an original horror movie, Rattlesnake (2019), co-starring Carmen Ejogo, Theo Rossi and Emma Greenwell. Hilditch, as director/writer, returned to theatrical features with the zombie movie, We Bury the Dead (2024), starring Daisy Ridley, Mark Coles Smith, and Brenton Thwaites, premiering at the South by Southwest Film Festival and released wide by Vertical (U.S.)/Umbrella Entertainment (Australia).
Zak Hilditch was born and raised in Perth, Australia, by his parents. Hilditch studied film production at Curtin University.
