Steve Hudson (birthname: Stephen Hudson) is an actor-turned-filmmaker whose career behind the camera began with a non-fiction film, Co/Ma (2004), for which Hudson was a co-director/co-writer (with the project lead director/cinematographer/editor/executive producer Mike Figgis, and Jovan Arsenic, Johnny O’Reilly, Hanna Slak and Fabi Passamonte), and which premiered at the Locarno Film Festival.
Hudson was director/writer of the BBC Film-backed thriller, True North (2006), starring Peter Mullan, Martin Compson, Gary Lewis and Hark Bohm, and then Hudson was a producer of director/co-writer Yuval Adler’s war drama, Bethlehem (2013), with Shadi Mar’I, Tsahi Halevi, Hitham Omari and George Iskander, premiering in the Venice Days section of the Venice Film Festival, and submitted as the Israeli entry to the Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award.
Hudson starred in and wrote the story for the screenplay of the German sci-fi movie directed/co-written/produced by Frank Mirbach, Real Buddy (2014), with Dietrich Hollander, Brian Thomas, and Ralf Burmester, and produced by Mineworks Film. Then Hudson was a lead producer of director/writer Franz Muller’s German comedy-drama, Happy Hour (2015), premiering at the Munich Film Festival, where Hudson shared the Young German Cinema Award for Best Production with producer Sonja Ewers. Hudson served as a producer of director/co-writer Eyal Halfon’s mockumentary, The 90 Minute War (2016), co-produced in Israel, Germany, and Portugal (by ARTE/Film-und-Medienstiftung NRW/Gringo Films), and co-starring Moshe Ivgy, Detlev Buck, and Norman Issa, which first screened at the Locarno Film Festival.
Steve Hudson was director/writer of his first animated feature film, Stitch Head (2025), inspired by Guy Bass’s children’s book, co-starring the voice cast of Asa Butterfield, Joel Fry, Tia Bannon, Rob Brydon and Alison Steadman, produced by Aniventure/Gringo Films/Fabrique d’Images, with animation produced by Assemblage Entertainment and Studio Rakete GmbH, with financial backing from Germany, Luxembourg, France, U.K. and India, and which premiered at the Annecy Animation Film Festival before a release by Briarcliff Entertainment (North America)/Wild Bunch (Germany and France)/Kazoo Films (U.K.).
Hudson has been an actor in supporting roles in features (mainly in Germany) since the 1980s, notably in his debut in director/writer/producer Stanley Kubrick’s charged Vietnam War film, Full Metal Jacket (1987), starring Matthew Modine, R. Lee Ermey, Vincent D’Onofrio, Adam Baldwin, Dorian Harwood, Kevyn Major Howar,d and Arliss Howard. Hudson’s acting credits also include appearances in The Delivery (1999), Boat Trip (2002), Bookies (2003), Fridrik Fridriksson’s Niceland (Population. 1.000.002) (2004), Real Buddy (201,4), and The Keeper (2018).
