Simon Curtis built a sterling reputation as a London stage director (primarily at the Royal Court) and directed several acclaimed British TV productions (primarily at the BBC), and then made his theatrical debut as director/executive producer of My Week with Marilyn (2011), writer Adrian Hodges’ adaptation of Colin Clark’s two books, The Prince, The Showgirl and Me and My Week with Marilyn, starring Oscar-nominated Michelle Williams (as Marilyn Monroe), Oscar-nominated Kenneth Branagh, Eddie Redmayne, Emma Watson and Judi Dench, grossing a good $35 million for The Weinstein Company (U.S.)/Entertainment Film Distributors (U.K.).

Curtis continued with the Crawley family to the end as director of Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale (2025), reuniting most of the original cast members plus Paul Giamatti, and released widely by Focus Features.
