Morgan Davies (birthname: Morgana Linda Davies) is an acclaimed young Australian actor who is trans. Davies’ feature debut was in director Jessica Lytton’s Australian drama, Green Fire Envy (2008), with Leigh Murray. Despite this credit, Davies received an “introduction” credit—as well as being the face of the poster—for writer-director Julie Bertuccelli’s Australian-French family drama, The Tree (2010), an adaptation of Judy Pascoe’s novel, selected as the closing film of the Cannes Film Festival, and earning Davies several acting award nominees (including from the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) and the Film Critics Circle of Australia).
Davies’ third feature marked a supporting role in The Hunter (2011), starring Willem Dafoe, Frances O’Connor, and Sam Neill, and directed by Daniel Nettheim, earning Davies her second acting nomination from the AACTA Awards and Film Critics Circle. After acting in a string of short films from 2011 to 2019 (while working mainly in episodic Australian TV), Davies returned to features in his last credit under the name Morgana Davies in the drama, Storm Boy (2019), starring Geoffrey Rush, Jai Courtney, and David Gulpilil, based on Colin Thiele’s 1964 novella. Appearing for the first time in features as Morgan Davies, he played a prominent supporting role in writer-director Lee Cronin’s revival of the Evil Dead franchise, Evil Dead Rise (2023), with Lily Sullivan and Alyssa Sutherland, released by Warner Bros.
Morgan Davies was born and raised in Sydney, Australia by single mother Elaine Davies. Davies was discovered as a child actor at age 7. He came out as transgender to a loved one and his agent at age 13, then went public in 2020. Davies identifies with the pronouns he/him. He is single.
