Derek Drymon (birthname: Derek David Drymon) is a veteran animation director, writer, producer, and voice actor who has primarily worked on television and feature films at Nickelodeon and DreamWorks Animation since 1993. Drymon made his debut as a feature-length director on the Columbia Pictures/Sony Pictures Animation/MRC animated sequel, Hotel Transylvania 4: Transformania (2022), co-directed by Jennifer Kluska, with the lead voices of Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kathryn Hahn, Jim Gaffigan, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon, David Spade, Keegan-Michael Key and Fran Drescher, and which was originally slated for theatrical release by Sony Pictures until it was sold during the COVID-19 pandemic to Amazon Studios, which streamed the movie on Amazon Prime Video.
Drymon was director of Paramount Animation’s and Nickleodeon Movies’ feature sequel based on creator Stephen Hillenburg’s animated television character—and the fourth theatrical movie in the franchise--The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants (2025), with voice actors Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, Rodger Bumpass, Bill Fagerbakke, Carolyn Lawrence, Mr. Lawrence, George Lopez, Isis “Ice Spice” Gaston, Regina Hall and Mark Hamill, and which was released by Paramount Pictures.
Derek Drymon is a veteran story artist on features, starting with The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004), Kung Fu Panda (2008), Monsters vs. Aliens (2009), Shrek Forever After (2010), Hop (2011), Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011), Puss in Boots (2011), Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted (2012), Turbo (2013), Penguins of Madagascar (2014), Minions (2015), Kung Fu Panda 3 (2016) and Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie (2017).
Derek Drymon was born and raised in Morristown, New Jersey by his parents. Drymon attended schools in the Morristown and Dover, New Jersey area, and graduated from Jefferson Township High School in 1987. Drymon majored in illustration at The School of Visual Arts, from which he graduated in 1992. Drymon is married to Nancy Drymon; the couple has two children.

Home at Nickelodeon: Derek Drymon may have interned at the Walt Disney Animation Studio, but he was recruited by Nickelodeon, with whom he has been associated in one creative capacity or another since 1992.
