David Midell is director/writer/producer who was nominated for the Independent Spirit Awards’ Someone to Watch prize in 2021, and began his feature filmmaking career with the autism-themed NightLights (2014), co-starring Shawna Waldron, Stephen Louis Grush, Jeff Garretson, Kate Black-Spence and Leslie Easterbrook, and produced by Play On Productions.
Midell was also director/writer/producer of the true-story drama, The Killing of Kenneth Chamberlain (2019), starring Frankie Faison, Steve O’Connell, Enrico Natale, Ben Marten, Laroyce Hawkins, and Anika Noni Rose, and released by Gravitas Ventures after premiering at the Austin Film Festival.
Midell returned to feature filmmaking as director/screenwriter/story writer of the exorcism horror movie based on a true story, The Ritual (2025), starring Al Pacino and Dan Stevens, with Ashley Greene, Abigail Cowen, Patrick Fabian, and Patricia Heaton, and released wide by XYZ Films.
