After a career as a model, Boyd Holbrook (birthname: Robert Boyd Holbrook) became an actor after training in New York, and landed a role in Gus Van Sant’s Harvey Milk biopic, Milk (2008), with Sean Penn, after submitting a screenplay to Van Sant. Three years later, Holbrook joined director-star Vera Farmiga in her directorial debut, Higher Ground (2011), followed by the action movie, The Reunion (2011), with John Cena, Ethan Embry, and Amy Smart, and Rob Reiner’s inspirational drama, The Magic of Belle Isle (2012), with Morgan Freeman and Virginia Madsen.
Holbrook joined another major director—Andrew Niccol—for the science fiction drama, The Host (2013), with Saoirse Ronan, Frances Fisher, and William Hurt. Holbrook ventured into Western territory with the feminist-themed Jane Got a Gun (2016), with Natalie Portman, Joel Edgerton, Noah Emmerich, and Ewan McGregor, followed by the science fiction thriller, Morgan (2016), with Kate Mara, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Paul Giamatti; James Mangold’s acclaimed X-Men spinoff, Logan (2017), with Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Richard E. Grant; and the 2018 HBO prison drama (with Holbrook as one of the producers), The O.G., starring Jeffrey Wright.
Boyd Holbrook’s next starring role was in Shane Black’s The Predator (2018), the fourth edition of the Predator franchise, with Jacob Tremblay, Keegan Michael-Key, and Sterling K. Brown; Holbrook also starred in Jim Mickle’s science fiction thriller, In the Shadow of the Moon (2019), with Michael C. Hall; once again, Holbrook starred in the Sundance-premiering horror film, The Cursed (2021), with Kelly Reilly. For the Greece-based thriller, Beckett (2021), Holbrook joined John David Washington, Vicky Krieps, and Alicia Vikander; he was then cast opposite co-star and writer-director B.J. Novak for the black comedy, Vengeance (2022), with Nova, Dove Cameron, and Issa Rae.
Holbrook’s next major projects include the James Mangold-directed (untitled) Indiana Jones movie, with Harrison Ford, Mads Mikkelsen, Toby Jones, and Antonio Banderas; and one of his few streaming/cable productions, the anticipated Justified follow-up, currently identified as The Untitled Elmore Leonard Adaptation (2023), starring Timothy Olyphant, Marin Ireland, Aujanue Ellis, and Vondie Curtis-Hall.
Born in the eastern Kentucky town of Prestonburg, Boyd Holbrook was raised by parents Don and Ellen Holbrook. Boyd Holbrook studied the Sanford Meisner acting program at the William Esper Studio in Manhattan, as well as filmmaking at New York University. He was in a relationship with actor Elizabeth Olson and was engaged to her from March 2014 to January 2015, when they broke off the relationship. Holbrook is married to Tatiana Pajkovic; the couple has one child, Leon. His height is 6’ 2”.
