The Capitol Theatre in Arlington, Massachusetts, is turning 100 years old, a remarkable achievement for the art house theatre. The centenary achievement is of particular note, given the volatility of the box office over the past five years, particularly for art houses. The Capitol Theatre has been a staple in the Boston suburb of Arlington for the past century, and the town’s support, rt together with deft management from its owner Ian Judge, has allowed the Capitol Theatre to thrive despite the challenges.
The theatre kicked off its centennial with a change in ownership, as Judge sold the theatre to three longtime staff members, Ian Brownell, Jamie Mattch, and Jay O’Leary. The new trio expects to continue running the theatre successfully for decades to come. The town’s local newspaper, per “Your Arlington,” published a piece on the Capitol Theatre this week, covering the theatre’s 100-year history and looking ahead to its promising future.
