An actor with a long career in the theater (particularly the Royal Shakespeare Company, Samantha Bond’s most indelible big-screen appearance is as Moneypenny, James Bond’s secretary, in GoldenEye (1995), Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), The World Is Not Enough (1999), and Die Another Day (2002), all with Pierce Brosnan.
She has appeared in several hit British TV series, including Rumpole of the Bailey (1987) with Leo McKern, and Midsomer Murders (2001-2011). Bond’s portrayal of Lady Rosamund Painswick on the hit series of Downton Abbey (2010-2015) secured her a spot in the 2022 movie version of the saga, Downton Abbey: A New Era, with Maggie Smith.
London-born Samantha Bond was raised by actor Philip Bond and TV producer Pat Sandys. Her sister is actor Abigail Bond and her brother is journalist Matthew Bond. After graduating from the Godolphin and Latymer School, Bond attended the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Bond has been married to stage actor Alexander Hanson in 1989; the couple has two children.
